Introduction
This research course is designed for those with a Bachelor of Architecture with honours, a Bachelor of Architecture with a minimum of three years' experience and graduates from other three-year and four-year degrees holding an honours pass seeking to advance knowledge by research in an aspect of the field of architecture.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
A Bachelor of Architecture with first or second-class honours or a Bachelor of Architecture with a minimum of three years practical experience. Applicants without an honours degree may be required to undertake a research methods unit. Applicants with honours degrees in comparable fields, such as engineering, planning, building and social sciences may be considered. Applicants from disciplines other than architecture may be required to undertake relevant preparatory units prior to submission of candidacy.
Duration and Availability
The course is by research and normally requires one to two years of full-time or equivalent part-time study.
Course Organisation
This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator of the Faculty of Built Environment, Art and Design. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration.
Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
Special Note
It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and one-third by coursework. Students should not enrol in this research degree to receive a related postgraduate diploma but rather have undertaken it as a requisite for admission.
