Introduction
This double degree is designed to provide a basis in and appreciation of the scientific discipline of psychology as well as the human resource management and industrial relations professions. This combination provides graduates with a highly marketable knowledge base that allows them to relate to a broad range of managers, professionals and consultants, and also provides a foundation for graduate studies in either professional application or research.
Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
None. Mathematiacs 2C/2D is desirable.
Specific Requirements
Applicants for this course should refer to the Clinical Health Science section (see page 36) and Police Clearances (see page 5). STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
Duration and Availability
The course is five years' full-time or equivalent part-time study. External study is available on a limited basis. Summer semester unit availability may shorten the course duration.
Course Organisation
Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Human Resource Institute. A fourth year in psychology is necessary to apply for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and for provisional registration as a psychologist. In Western Australia two years supervised psychological practice after fourth year, or completion of a two-year master program is required for full registration as a psychologist. For full membership of the APS a master degree is required.
