Prerequisite(s): 7032 (v.5) Geology 102 or any previous version
Syllabus: Introduction to sedimentology; physical properties of sediments, weathering and the sedimentary cycle. Sediment classification. Sedimentary processes; sedimentary structures. Sedimentary depositional systems and models; environments, facies and basin fill. Sedimentary petrology: sedimentary rocks and diagenesis at microscopic scale. Principles, nomenclature and procedures in stratigraphy. Lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy. Outcrop and subsurface correlation; facies and stratigraphic maps. Introduction to seismic and sequence stratigraphy.
