Development of global managerial competencies in the Asia-Pacific region. The course features guided independent study, team projects and maximum use of information and communication technology. A unique feature of the course is its action learning format and emphasis on international business competencies. The program is not a generalist course where students from diverse, non-business backgrounds are accepted. It is a master program for candidates with business or related experience.
A bachelor degree in business, economics or commerce, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, provided the specific discipline in the bachelor degree is different to that of the proposed professional master, or a bachelor degree in a field other than business, economics or commerce, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, or an honours degree, or a graduate diploma (in business, economics or commerce), or significant professional experience. Note that students may be required to complete additional foundation units at the discretion of the appropriate academic program area head.
Candidates with insufficient background may be required to complete one or more of the following foundation units before commencing the Master of International Business program: International Trade 501, Finance (International) 573, Management Processes and Policies 560, Innovative Organisations 564 or Communication in Organisations 560.
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.
This fee-paying course is four semesters (75 credits per semester) full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available during the evening. International onshore students on student visas are not permitted to study on a part-time mode.
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:
Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management.
Depending upon the major area of study chosen, graduates are eligible for membership to the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Management.
Graduates generally find employment with companies that have an interest in or focus on international activities.
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. In addition, students may undertake a study tour unit at their own expense.
Curtin University reserves the right to alter the internal composition of any course to ensure learning outcomes retain maximum relevance. Any changes to the internal composition of a course will protect the right of students to complete the course within the normal timeframe and will not result in additional cost to students through a requirement to undertake additional units.
