UNIT REFERENCES, TEXTS, OUTCOMES AND ASSESSMENT DETAILS: The most up-to-date information about unit references, texts and outcomes, will be provided in the unit outline.
Additional Tuition Pattern Information: 2 x 3 day intensive workshops. Interactive - working in small and large group activities and demonstrations. Experiential and peer group learning. Reflective learning journal requires students to actively critique their personal and professional communication style and processes; interactive lectures. In vivo practise.
Syllabus: An introduction to active listening skills, interviewing and helping skills. Awareness of incongruent non-verbal communication and the influence of stereotypes, prejudices and cross-cultural issues in communication. Developing knowledge and understanding of basic models of helping and problem solving, including basic assessment skills and processes applicable to professional practice. Ethics and professional responsibilities.
