Syllabus: Geological discontinuities and intact rock. In situ stress measurements. Measurement of discontinuity characteristics from core logging and rock exposures. Data analysis, interpretation and definition of structural domains for design. In situ block size distributions. A critical review of rockmass classification systems. Estimates of rockmass strength. A review of case studies including field mapping of cores and rock exposures.
