Syllabus: This unit involves the study and discussion of: Infectious diseases affecting various body sites and their differential laboratory diagnosis; Further aspects of bacterial resistance to antimicrobials and its detection in vitro; pathogenesis and laboratory features of medically significant micro-organisms not discussed in previous units; re-emerging and newly emerging microbial diseases; specific areas of current research focus in medical microbiology.
