Syllabus: Overview of tasking concepts. Real-time scheduling: rate monotonic algorithm and priority ceiling protocol. Static versus dynamic scheduling. Real-time kernels. Real-time case studies: cruise control, robot controller, elevator control and distributed factory automation system. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Quality control. Fault tolerance. Formal methods. Specifications, testing and maintenance of real-time systems. UML.
