Introduction

This course is designed to provide specialist training at an introductory level in clinical classification. Graduates of this course are qualified to seek employment as a clinical coder.

Course Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree or advanced diploma or equivalent, relevant work experience may also be recognised.

Specific Requirements

Applicants for this course should hold a certificate or training in medical terminology and academic writing.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is available in both internal and external (online) study modes and is of one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study. Where possible, classes will be scheduled in the evening to accommodate students already employed. This course is also available to international offshore students. International onshore students on student visas are not permitted to study this course externally (online).

Course Organisation

Four core units are required to complete this course. Part-time students should discuss their study plan with the course coordinator. Students should check for availability of units in the online handbook as these are subject to change.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials. In particular students will be required to purchase the NCCC International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) and the HIMAA Introductory textbook.
