Introduction

The course builds on the online Graduate Certificate in Research Commercialisation (GCRC) and has been developed by Curtin University of Technology, University of South Australia, RMIT, Queensland University of Technology and the University of TechnologySydney. It aims to provide an understanding and opportunities for skill and cognitive development commensurate with middle management and/or leadership of a high ranking public or private sector research services unit. In doing so, the course aims to explore the conceptual and policy underpinnings of innovation systems and introduce students to the higher level strategic and entrepreneurial thinking required of executive leadership in research. A Research Management Project is a core unit.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Four year undergraduate degree of equivalent. Applicants without this academic requirement may be eligible for entry on the basis of professional activities in the Research and Development Management or related fields. Such applicants are advised to contact the Course Coordinator for ruling on eligibility. Three year trained graduates will normally be expected to have at least had a year of relevant professional experience and may be required to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Research Commercialisation (GCRC) prior to enrolling in this degree.

Students are required to have and maintain reliable internet access.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. The Graduate Certificate in Research Commercialisation (GCRC) may count as 100 credits.

Duration and Availability

The course is three semesters full time equivalent study. All units are offered online only. Studentes will require regular and reliable internet access. Part-time study is only available with the prior approval of the course coordinator.

Intermediate Awards I

The Master of Research and Development Management has two intermediate awards; the Graduate Diploma in Research Commercialisation and the Graduate Diploma in Research and Development Management.

Course Organisation

The course is expected to completed over three semesters full time. Upon completion of the first semester core unit, Knowledge Transfer and Research Commericalisation and an additional three optional units, students are able to exit with a Graduate Certificate in Research Commercialisation. Upon completion of a further 100 credits, students are able to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Research and Development Management. A maximum of two electives (total 50 credits) may be undertaken outside the suite designated with the approval of the Course Coordinator.

Where application for recognition is being sought, an expected date for this recognition must be provided, to ensure that this information is updated. Statements as such will be automatically end dated to ensure that they are updated as soon as professional recognition is achieved.

Career Opportunities

Graduates may be provided with opportunities for employment in Research Management as a R&D Administrator, Manager, Researcher or Research Leader.
