Syllabus: Introduction to medium-scale building construction: floor, wall and roof systems including cladding material selection, system connections, general structural framing, roof drainage, ceiling systems and general weatherproofing. Specialist lectures are provided on structural engineering of a building's lateral stability and by a practising architect on the design development philosophy of a building. Students undertake project-based design development exercises in workshop tutorials, including tuition with architects and structural engineers, and related field trips.
