Introduction

This undergraduate degree provided by Curtin University will prepare students to teach in the zero to five early learning sector. This will ensure that high quality, sustainable and universally recognised education is provided to children during the years when brain development is most rapid and effective, ongoing learning dispositions are set in place.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

TISC; TAFE Diploma; Cert IV (Children's Services); STAT; International Qualifications in Early Childhood.

Specific Requirements

Working With Children (WWC) Clearance; First Aid Certificate (Basic or Senior) Criminal History Record Check (DOE Requirement)

Recognition of Prior Learning

Diploma of Children’s Services - 5 core units of Degree, Advanced Diploma of Children’s Services - 6 core units of Degree, Other qualifications are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

3 years full-time study or equivalent part-time study. Internal and fully online. Semester one and semester two intakes.

Course Organisation

This proposed degree is nested entirely within the existing BEd (ECE) degree offered by Curtin University. The units that address the years 0 - 5 (Birth through Kindergarten/Pre-Primary) including essential educational psychology, special education, teachers as researchers and Indigenous Australian Education - in the same order as studied in the 4-year degree, will be offered with the 10-week Internship as the final coursework of this degree.

Career Opportunities

This proposed 3-year degree, which is strongly supported by local training institutions and employing agencies across the early years’ learning sector may provide students who do not want to work in the school environment with an alternative degree qualified career pathway.

Students will be expected to purchase a number of text books, readers and other essential study materials.
