Syllabus: The focus of this unit is the older person as an individual in a social context. The unit addresses ways in which the discourses of ageing impact on the older person's experience and well-being. Policy developments in Australia are also examined based on demographic perspectives. Issues such as, ageism, poverty, abuse, retirement and residential decision are explored.
