Syllabus: Finite difference methods for PDEs - derivative approximation, SOR and ADI methods, explicit and implicit methods. Finite element methods for PDEs - variational statements, finite element formulation of elliptic and time-dependent problems, two-dimensional element calculations, solution of sparce systems of linear equations (sparse matrix methods and conjugate gradient method) and finite element applications.
