Syllabus: Overview, scope, history and definitions of Indigenous health from both international and Australian perspectives; Indigenous and modern world views and their impact on health, society and environment; epidemiological aspects of Indigenous health: patterns of morbidity and mortality, and geographic, social, economic and political determinants; the history and evolution of health care delivery to Indigenous people: compare and contrast Indigenous and modern health care systems; basic principles underpinning health care delivery to Indigenous peoples; different levels of health care delivery at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels; the politics of health care delivery and how systems of government impact on health care services delivery and allocation of funding and resources; models of practice and critical evaluation of case studies from Indigenous peoples in Australia, Brazil, China, India, the USA, and other countries; develop intercultural knowledge and skills to work and communicate effectively across Indigenous social and health settings.
