Syllabus: This unit involves the study of non-gynaecological cytology. It covers the pathogenesis and diagnostic cellular features of benign, inflammatory and neoplastic conditions in major body systems including the respiratory tract, serous cavities, genitourinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, breast, thyroid, lymph node and soft tissues. Ancillary testing for diagnosis including special stains, immunohistochemical and molecular methods as applied to exfoliative and fine needle aspiration specimens.
