Syllabus: The theory and practice of exercise physiology with emphasis on endurance sports. The theory and practice of the work-site with emphasis on mine-site fitness and the role of nutrition and hydration. The theory and practice of cardiovascular physiology with application to the acute cardiac setting. Understanding of the fuel utilisation during exercise and post-exercise metabolism. Study of special exercise situations, including cardiac-rehabilitation, mine-site, children in sport, weight-category and aesthetic sports. Fluid requirements for exercise and work in the heat. The role of carbohydrate, fat, protein in exercise metabolism. Understanding the role of energy metabolism, anthropometry and weight management in sport. The role of health and body composition in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. The role of ergogenic aids in sporting performance including creatinine and caffeine.
