Prerequisite(s): 12455 (v.4) Geophysics 303 - Introductory Seismic or any previous version
Syllabus: Introduction to seismic methods, history and economics. Seismic reflection, tying to well logs, numerical modelling. Stacking diagram, fold, resolution and cost timing. Receivers, land versus marine versus transition zone 3C4D. Linear array design, symmetric or asymmetric recording, dip recording and weighted arrays. Source, land versus marine, weighted arrays and convolution of weighted arrays. Far field testing, ghosting and optimising source. Instrumentation, sampling aliasing, dynamic range, sign-bit recording, field computing, A to D converters and data formats. Coordinate systems and survey positioning. Establishing field parameters, field tests F to K plotting and two-dimensional layouts. Three-dimensional surveys, land, marine, transitional zones and migration. Data acquisition: three-dimensional, three-dimensional survey design and three-dimensional interpretation.
