Syllabus: Wave mechanics. Structure of solids. Free electron theory of metals. Band theory, semiconductors and p-n junctions. Thermal radiation, Planck theory, Compton effect, photoelectric effect, geometrical optics, optical fiber, image formation by plane, spherical mirrors and lenses, optical devices, lasers and photometry.
