Syllabus: Introduction to the cultures and societies of the South Asian region. Central tenets of South Asian civilisations as everyday practice. The cultural and social organisation of gender, ethnic, caste and class relations within selected urban and rural communities. Changing identities and patterns of inequality. Agrarian transformation and industrialisation.
