Introduction

This course is designed for those who wish to increase or acquire basic knowledge and skills in the planning, operation and management of information systems in global business environments. It allows students to progress to one of three professional master programs in information systems management, information technology, or internet security and forensics.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree in a field other than business, economics or commerce, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution. An alternative entry is the graduate certificate (in an appropriate discipline) or significant professional experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards 1

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate award(s) approved for this course are:

Graduate Certificate in Information Systems.

Course Organisation

The core areas studied includes: managing information systems projects and risks, systems analysis, database systems, programming, technological infrastructure, problem solving and the human aspects of organisations. Successful completion of the eight units and maintaining a high course average will gain applicants entry into the Master of Information Systems Management, Information Technology or Internet Security and Forensics.

Professional Recognition

With a prior computing related degree, graduates may apply for membership with the Australian Computer Society.

Career Opportunities

Graduates generally find employment in supervisory roles within information systems departments in public and private organisations.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
