Introduction

Provides health professionals with a broad and sound foundation in biological and behavioural sciences, the principles of teaching and learning and best practice management of diabetes. Graduates will have the capacity to advance diabetes education and guide clinical practice.

Course Entry Requirements

A relevant bachelor degree in a clinical based health profession or equivalent from a recognised institution. An alternative mode of entry is available for health professionals without a degree but with substantiative work experience.

Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening and Clearance Section of this publication.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning and/or exemptions may be granted to students who have successfully completed additional approved tertiary studies and related work experience. Each application will be considered individually.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study. It is available by external study only.

Course Organisation

Students are required to participate in clinical practice (two x 10 days).

Professional Recognition

This course has Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) accreditation 2003 - 2008. Graduates will be able to use this course as part-evidence to support an application for credentialing with ADEA.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
