Introduction

This course provides an opportunity for suitably qualified graduate students to undertake a dissertation based program in the field of Indigenous community health. The course focuses on Indigenous knowledge and research methodologies and emphasises multidisciplinary approaches to analyse topics of relevance to Indigenous people.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

Refer to Admission into Honours Degree Programs and Regulations for Honours Degrees in the General Information section of the Curtin Courses Handbook. The following students are eligible to apply for places in the program: those students who have completed the Bachelor of Applied Science (Indigenous Community Health) at Curtin University and have attained a course weighted average of 70 or above in the third year of the course.

Note

The course coordinator will only approve entry into the honours degree for students possessing undergraduate degrees from outside the Centre for Aboriginal Studies where one or more of the following additional criteria is met: the student is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, has completed one or more undergraduate units with a substantial indigenous studies component, or can demonstrate substantial life experience residing with or working with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Course Organisation

Students undertake a semester of coursework, followed by a semester of independent research, fieldwork and dissertation writing.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
