Introduction

This course is designed to give students a rounded knowledge of business and the legal aspects associated with the administration of sport. The graduate Diploma in Sports Administration is designed to provide students with the theoretical foundations andtechniques of sports administration, law and management together with practical business applications. Students study a broad range of national and international sports organisations at amateur, professional and Olympic levels.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree (or equivalent) in business, commerce or a related field from a recognised tertiary institution or completion of a Graduate Certificate in Sports Administration. Alternatively, a minimum of two years relevant employment experience in the sports or other suitable industry.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Intermediate Awards I

A student who has completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval from the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course are:

Graduate Certificate in Sports Administration.

Professional Recognition

Graduates will meet the academic requirements for membership of the Institute of Sport Management and the Australia and New Zealand Sports Law Association.

Career Opportunities

Graduates may find employment in both the public and private sectors including organisations such as Department of Sport and Recreation, national and state sporting organisations, institutes and academies of sport, professional league clubs (AFL, NRL, ARU and NBL), recreations centres and event management agencies.
