Syllabus: |
The principles and application of the major underground and surface mining methods, and the design of materials handling and transport systems and infrastructure required to support them. Specific topics include - surface mining methods - strip mining, open pit mining, unit operations drill, load, and blast, haul truck and shovel matching for production. Underground mining methods - shaft sinking, decline / drift access. Coal mining, covering the history of Australian coalmining, bord and pillar, long wall, ventilation, pillar design, gas, outburst and windblast, ground control - hard rock, backfill, raising. Hard rock mining methods - sublevel (open) stoping, benching, cut and fill, caving methods, room and pillar, narrow vein, bogger and truck matching for production requirements. Materials handling and transport systems. Conveyor systems. In pit crushing. Hoisting systems - wire rope and regs, hoisting calcs. Hydraulic transport. Pumping and drainage. Draglines. Rail Transport. Underground bins. Flasks, crushers, skips, and bunkers. Stockpiles. Separation ore/waste. Systems infrastructure and site requirements. Mine development. Access (Shaft declines). Surface infrastructure (offices, fuel storage bays etc). Mine services - water, air, rail and road. |
