Syllabus:

Introduction to applied mathematics in a geological framework. Theory and case studies on sampling procedures, probability and randomness, frequency distributions, logarithmic class intervals, central tendency, normal distributions, confidence limits, correlation and regression analysis. Computer packages with inbuilt data processing routines, for example Minitab and Excel. Case studies to be drawn from examples in geology, geochemistry, geophysics and ore reserve estimation.
