310425 v. 1 Industrial Modelling and Optimisation Major

Introduction

This major is designed to provide graduates with the necessary skills in mathematics, engineering, computing and management to prepare them for employment business, industrial and government organisations. Industrial Modelling and Optimisation programs are well established world-wide, usually appearing under the title "Industrial Engineering" or "Operations Research". These programs are presently enjoying considerable growth in enrolments. A major reason for this growth is the recognition of the significant contribution that graduates skilled in industrial modelling and optimisation technology can make towards increased efficiency and productivity of business and industry. Nationally, demand for graduates comes from Government Departments (Agriculture, Forest Products Commission, Treasury, Transport and Infrastructure, Minerals and Energy, Health) Government agencies (CSIRO, DSTO), and industries such as Mining and Petroleum, Banking, Communications, Defence, Transport and Logistics and Manufacturing.
