Introduction

This course provides basic training to those desiring a career shift and/or the necessary prerequisites for honours or postgraduate diploma study in one of the Department's majors: Australian Folklife; Australian and Intercultural Studies; Creative Writing; Cultural Studies; Gender Studies; Literary Studies; Performance Studies; Professional Writing and Presentation and Publishing Practice. Students are expected to achieve a level of competence and performance superior to that of the typical undergraduate student.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

An approved bachelors (or higher) degree or equivalent in a discipline other than English, or a Bachelor of Arts course in English (or higher) in an area different from the stream in which study is proposed.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. It should be noted that work in some areas, especially performance studies, requires substantial attendance on campus, often in daytime. It cannot be guaranteed that evening classes are available. If bridging work in basic prerequisite units is required the course duration will increase.

Intermediate Awards I

A student who has successfully completed the requirements of an approved intermediate award may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School/Department. Fees apply. Intermediate awards approved for this course appear below.
