Course CRICOS Code: 027174M
Registered full-time Duration for International Onshore Students on student visas: 3 Years

Introduction

Multimedia is a continually evolving area situated between art, technology and society. This course considers multimedia primarily as designed experiences produced through the exploration and experimentation of concepts, aesthetics, contextual issues andmedia technologies for an array of purposes such as education and training, entertainment, commerce and cultural enrichment. This course facilitates vigorous development in students' conceptual abilities in the fundamentals of multimedia design through historical, theoretical and critical analysis of multimedia and related fields. Students will investigate the broader contexts of emerging technologies and discover relevant design issues. Through project-based works in conjunction with theoretical investigations, students will explore innovative ways to put ideas into practice while developing abilities, skills and competencies in all aspects of multimedia design. The course encourages students to explore their own interests and direct their learning by offering a range of optional units. In determining their own study program, students will develop a broader outlook, gain practical strength, and particularly, learn how to adapt to multimedia design's fast-changing social and technological environment.

Career Opportunities

Entertainment - special effects, 3-D visualisation, 3-D animation and cell animation, motion graphics in television, gaming etc. Science - scientific visualisation. Art - art and cultural research and expression, public art installations; criticism and consultancy. Academic - postgraduate and further studies research.

Additional Course Expenses

All applicants to Department of Design programs must be prepared to meet a substantial portion of the course, consumable cost's chiefly in the personal purchase of design materials. The department provides as much basic material as possible, but the highly varied nature of consumables and personal preferences of students does not allow it to meet all of these wider needs. All students are also required to own or have access to a 35mm single lens reflex camera, either fully manual or automatic with manualoverride. The department strongly recommends that students have access to a computer with software relevant to requirements of the course. Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
