Syllabus: Psychology - Human behavioural studies. Concepts of culture. Attribution and interpersonal perception in environmental health situations. Attitudes to cause and responsibility for control measures. Individual response to crisis. Motivation, the role of groups in influencing environmental control measures. Principles of motivation. Analysis of viewpoints which create potential dangers to human health. Communicable disease - epidemiological principles of current and emerging diseases. Administrative and legal procedures for the control of communicable diseases. Investigation of cases and outbreaks. Tropical diseases. Update on the control of selected communicable diseases with focus on emerging food and vector-borne and zoonotic diseases. Pest Management- Pests of public health significance especially medically important Arthropods. Human and environmental impacts associated with pest management strategies. Legal requirements covering safe use of pesticides.
