Syllabus: Thermodynamic system, control volume, Thermodynamic properties, processes and property diagrams. Thermodynamic equilibrium, zeroth law, work at system boundary, pure substances (steam/gas), ideal gas behaviour, first Law, internal energy and enthalpy, heat and work conversion. Cyclic and non-cyclic processes, steady flow energy equation, second law, heat engine and heat pump - reversibility and irreversibility. Second Law statements, clausius Inequality, entropy as a property and measure of irreversibility.
