Syllabus: Geological discontinuities and intact rock. In-situ stress measurements. Measurement of discontinuity characteristics from core logging and rock exposures. Data analysis, interpretation and definition of structural domains for design. In-situ block size distributions. A critical review of rockmass classification systems. Estimates of rockmass strength. A reveiw of case studies, including field mapping of cores and rock exposures.
