Introduction

This is a course in contemporary jewellery design and making. It develops professional skills through special workshops supervised by specialist jewellers focusing on gold and precious and semi-precious gemstone design. A key element in the course is involvement in a retail outlet, providing the opportunity to earn an income to offset student fees. Students develop high levels of competence in advanced studio production skills and an informed knowledge of the jewellery industry.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor of arts degree, with a specialisation in jewellery or other appropriate discipline, or a TAFE diploma and relevant professional experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one year full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Additional Course Expenses

Students engage in fieldwork in all semesters of the course and are responsible for related expenses. Students are expected to make provision for the purchase of gold, silver and gemstone materials and for tools, at an estimated cost of between $700-$1,000 per semester. Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
