Introduction

This course is designed to meet the needs of the health and welfare workers who are required to contribute to reducing the harm associated with alcohol and other drug use. It is a collaborative program between the Drug and Alcohol Office and the School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A relevant bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognised institution, or meet an alternative mode of entry available for health professionals without a degree.

Specific Requirements

Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis. Students who have successfully completed the Chemical Dependency Certificate course undertaken at the Drug and Alcohol Office of Western Australia will receive recognition of prior learning or exemption for the unit Substance Misuse 561.

Duration and Availability

This course is of one year full-time or equivalent part-time study. As some of the units are offered only once in each year and in the required sequence of study, there is some limitation of choice for those studying part-time.

Course Organisation

The Chemical Dependency Certificate course component undertaken at the Drug and Alcohol Office of Western Australia forms part of this course as Substance Misuse 561.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
