Introduction

This research doctorate covers the Centre's areas of research specialisation including gender issues, teaching and learning, classroom environment, constructivism, school leadership, assessment, curriculum and computing and technology education.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A Curtin Master of Science (Science Education) degree or equivalent masters degree, a relevant honours degree (usually first or upper second class), together with a relevant qualification in education and work experience in education, superior performance in Curtin's Postgraduate Diploma in Science Education equivalent to a first class honours degree, or other qualifications and background which warrant special consideration. Applicants may be interviewed as part of the admission procedures.

Duration and Availability

The course is by research and normally requires two to four years full-time or six to eight years of part-time study.

Course Organisation

This course is studied as a research degree. The content of the degree should be determined in consultation with the Postgraduate Coordinator, Science and Mathematics Education Centre. Students without prior studies in research methods and statistical data analysis will be required to undertake relevant preparatory units. This will increase the stated course duration.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.

Special Note

It is a requirement that two-thirds of this course is undertaken by research and only one-third by coursework.
