Introduction

This course in contemporary art practice develops professional skills through special workshops supervised by specialist staff and placements within industry or other arts agencies within the community. Students develop high levels of competency in advanced studio production skills and an informed knowledge of arts administration in specialist areas.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor of arts degree with a specialisation in an appropriate discipline or a TAFE diploma with additional professional experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee-paying course is one semester full-time or equivalent part-time study.

Career Opportunities

Graduates find employment in a wide range of art related professions. As well as working as independent professional studio practitioners, earning through direct sales, commissions and public exhibition of works, graduates have been employed as curators in major museums, including the Singapore Art Museum and the Art Gallery of Western Australia, as arts administrators and curators in university galleries and regional galleries around Australia. Many graduates are teachers in Art Schools such as La Salle and NAFA in Singapore, Sydney College of the Arts, Edith Cowan University, The University of Western Australia and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Others are employed in the Australian TAFE sector and in secondary education.
