Introduction
This double degree course has been designed as a direct response to the needs of the community, both local and global, a recognised worldwide shortage of occupational therapists, coupled with calls from within the health industry for health professionals to diversify their skills base.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
At least one TEE science subject. TEE mathematics desirable.

Specific Requirements
All applicants (except Year 12 School leavers currently studying TEE in WA for the first time) must complete a Personal Information Form. Applications without this form will not be considered. For a Personal Information Form contact the School of Occupational Therapy on (08) 9266 3602. Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication. Students are required to have a current Essential First Aid Certificate within 4 weeks of entry into the first year of the course. The STAT is not accepted for entry to this course. In addition, throughout the course, students are required to have passed all units in a year before being allowed to proceed to the next year.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis

Duration and Availability
The course is five years full-time study and is available on a full-time basis only. Some of the units may be available as evening classes but prospective students should be aware that there is an extensive practical requirement for the occupational therapy component of the course which makes part-time study not practicable. Students may be required to undertake some of their studies outside the formal semester periods.

Course Organisation
Clinical practice throughout the course is undertaken in a number of hospitals and allied institutions with the cooperation of the relevant specialist and adminstrative staff. Fieldwork will also be undertaken in pre-primary settings and special education units. Students enrolled in the double degree program may elect to transfer to a single degree course in one of the two disciplines. In this event the relevant Head of School shall determine the amount of credit to be transferred to the single degree.

Professional Recognition
Graduates from this course are accepted for membership of the Australian Assocation of Occupational Therapists and for registration with the Occupational Therapists Registration Board of Western Australia. The course is recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). Graduates may register as teachers.

Additional Course Expenses
In addition to the usual course expenses, student will require a laboratory coat, approved clinical uniform, goniometer and pay a fee for consumables. Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials.
