301841 v.2 Master of Social Policy



Introduction
This course is designed for those from diverse backgrounds, seeking to develop advanced understanding of social policy and practice. It provides an opportunity to explore theoretical approaches to the study of social policy and the skills to analyse and participate in policy making in a wide range of settings. While the course is designed as generic in its framework, it draws on special areas of expertise and it explores content from a comparative and global perspective. This allows the development or advancement of knowledge, practice and research skills in an area of specialisation.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
Graduate Diploma in Social Policy or an equivalent qualification. Graduates with other qualifications are considered. A minimum of two years work experience is desirable.

Specific Requirements
Applicants for this course should refer to the Communicable Diseases and Criminal Record Screening/Clearance Section of this publication.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applicants who are eligible for immediate entry to the Masters program who have not completed the Graduate Diploma in Social Policy may be considered for up to one third, recognition of prior learning if they can demonstrate equivalent work undertaken.

Duration and Availability
This fee paying course is of three semesters full-time duration or equivalent part-time.

Intermediate Awards
A student who has successfully completed all the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Social Policy may apply for graduation in that award subject to approval of the Head of School. For further definition refer to the Statement and Awards section under General Information.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study.

Special Note
The School of Social Work and Social Policy is undertaking a review of this program in 2001 - 2003. Prospective students should contact the School for information on the future structure of this program.
