Students focus creative work in a variety of disciplines including painting, fibre or textiles, printmaking, sculpture, jewellery or three-dimensional design, photography, installation and performance and audio-visual technologies.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites
None. Interview and folio, as required.

Specific Requirements
STAT elements considered are E and either V or Q.

Note
Students may be required to participate in field trips and/or short term internships during semester or in the mid-semester breaks.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability
The course is two years full-time or equivalent part-time study at the Curtin University of Technology - Kalgoorlie Campus. Some units are also available through external study.

Course Organisation
The course has a common first year to introduce the basic concepts and philosophy of contemporary visual arts practice and provide an initial experience in all of the major studio disciplines taught within the School. This enables those with a limited previous experience in fine art, visual arts or crafts practice to explore a wider range of art practice and to make a choice of major and minor studies in second year. Alternatively, the first year allows those with some prior training to develop an understanding of alternative forms of contemporary practice as a stimulus for new directions and learning. In second year, students elect a major studio area, a visual culture unit and a visual research unit. All are encouraged to undertake units offered by other teaching schools on the Kalgoorlie campus.

Additional Course Expenses
Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other vital study materials. In addition, students may also need to contribute some of the cost of consumables, which varies depending on the area of study. Some units within this course may have a field component, for which costs may be incurred.
