Syllabus: International relations within the Indian Ocean region. The geographical and historical framework, sub-regions, interests and instruments of external powers. The evolution of the region as a strategic area, interactions between external local states, relations within subregions, domestic and international sources of foreign policy for selected states such as Indonesia, India, Pakistan, and Iran.
