Syllabus: Management Principles and Practices 560 examines the fundamental principles underpinning management theory and explores the associated practices in contemporary organisations. The unit discusses the major management theories and critically examines the present status and future direction of its implications on practice in organisations. Specifically, the history and development of management thought are explored and outcomes in terms of the development of key managerial functions are explained. In addition, the future of management is considered in the light of poignant 21st century issues such as globalisation, corporate social responsibility and change management. Utilising relevant case studies, the unit aims to provide an interesting insight into theapplication of some of the vital managerial functions in present-day organisations.
