Prerequisite(s): 311077 (v.1) OT542 Neuropsychiatry I or any previous version
Syllabus: Neuropathophysiological and neuropsychiatric processes in childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. Addresses personality disorders, somatoform disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-related, eating disorders, pervasive and specific developmental disorders and dementias. Incorporates clinical features, aetiologies, trajectories, and multidisciplinary biopsychosocial interventions. Application of diagnostic assessments and classification systems. Analysis of impact on occupational performance of these disorders. Occupational therapy process and clinical reasoning in relation to the treatment of these disorders. Application of occupational therapy theory to inform clinical reasoning. Augmentative psychological theories. Recovery model. Service delivery models. Evidence-based practice. Mental health promotion, early intervention and prevention of mental illness. Prevalence, burden of care, ethical and medicolegal issues in relation to the treatment of these disorders.
