Syllabus:	A broad overview of the drug discovery and development process including lectures from industry-based scientists who are actively engaged in biotechnology. The unit will overview: the molecular basis of disease and the history of drug discovery and development; lead identification and turning a lead into a drug; preclinical and clinical phases of drug discovery; intellectual property; regulatory and commercial affairs; and biotechnology industries. Specialist seminars of case studies will highlight many of the issues entailed in the drug discovery and development pathways.
