311159 v.1 Mathematical Sciences and Computing Major (Bachelor of Science)

Introduction

This double major (within the Bachelor of Science - School of Science and Computing) provides the opportunity for students to pursue their interests in mathematics and computing as joint disciplines. The major allows students to undertake in-depth study in both areas of mathematics and computing in a way that is not possible in a single degree in either discipline. It is designed to produce graduates who will have well-developed computing and mathematical skills. Graduates will be able to apply their quantitative and mathematical skills to modelling and simulation tasks and to software development and these can in turn be used to analyse and improve industrial and management processes. Graduates may find employment in many areas, including the mining andresources industries, software companies, financial institutions, health administration, research organisations, universities and government organisations.
