Introduction

This double major provides students with the opportunity to acquire both a sound understanding of the tourism industry and the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in sport management. This course is unique amongst Australian universities as it is the only sport management course offered by a school of business law in Australia, reflecting the increased influence of law in the day to day operation of sport organisations. Students will study core business units alongside core sport units that contain numerous practical sport business examples from a great range of national and international sport organisations at amateur, professional and Olympic levels. Tourism Management is targeted at those interested in a career in the rapidly expandingtourism industry in Australia and overseas. Students study the management of the tourism industry and tourism organisations including the hospitality and hotel sectors, events and conventions sectors, facilities and operations, tourism sustainability, strategic planning and development.

Professional Recognition

Graduates will meet the academic requirements for membership of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ), the Institute of Sport Management (ISM) and the Australia and New Zealand Sports Law Association (ANZSLA).

Career Opportunities

Graduates may find employment in both the public and private sectors including organisations such as the Department of Sport and Recreation, national and state sporting organisations, institutes of academies of sport, professional league clubs: Australian Football League (AFL); National Rugby Union (NRL); Australian Rugby Union (ARU); the National Basketball League (NBL); recreation centres; tourism organisations and event management agencies.
