307086 v.2 Counselling Psychology Major

Introduction

This major provides advanced professional training in counselling psychology in individual, group, couples and family psychotherapy, psychological assessment, psychopathology and applied research. It integrates theoretical and experiential modes of education.

Rationale and Viability

Changes in APS College of Counselling Psychology accreditation will require the addition of new curriculum content to meet new guidelines. The replacement of an elective unit with a new compulsory unit will allow this content to be added into the course. The course is taking in more applicants with limited professional or voluntary experience than in the past years and this necessitates more thorough training in basic psychotherapy skills that were assumed previously. The only change to the course is that an elective will now become a compulsory unit and this necessitates some minor changes in the sequence of units.
