Introduction

Designed to provide students with the relevant knowledge and skills required for career advancement and management positions in the services, tourism and hospitality industry in Australia and overseas. The course also aims to provide relevant industry experienced management staff without a first degree the opportunity to acquire a formal qualification in that discipline.

Course Entry Requirements/Prerequisites

A bachelor degree in business, economics or commerce, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution, provided that the specific discipline in the bachelor degree is different to that of the proposed professional master, or a bachelor degree in a field other than business, economics or commerce, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution, or an honours degree, or a graduate diploma (in business, economics or commerce), or significant professional experience. Note that the student may be required to complete additional foundation units at the discretion of the appropriate academic program area head.

Specific Requirements

Candidates without sufficient background may be required to complete one or more of the following foundation units before commencing the first stage - Cross Cultural Communication and Negotiation 580, Tourism Management (Principles and Practices) 560, Tourism Management (Impacts and Influences) 565, Human Resource Management (Overview) 560, Professional Practice 580 or Professional Practice 595.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applications for recognition of prior learning are assessed on an individual basis.

Duration and Availability

This fee paying course is three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. Some units are available during the evening.

Professional Recognition

Depending upon the major area of study chosen, graduates are eligible for membership to the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management.

Career Opportunities

Graduates generally find employment positions that have an interest in or focus on services and tourism management activities in the intermediary managerial level.

Additional Course Expenses

Students may be expected to purchase a number of textbooks, readers and other essential study materials.
