Anti Requisite(s): 302214 (v.2) ChE 558 Advanced Process Control or any previous version
Prerequisite(s): 302264 (v.2) ChE 326 Process Control or any previous version
 
Syllabus: Cascade, ratio and feedforward control. PID enhancements - inferential control, over-ride control/selective control, scheduling controller tuning, implementation issues. Other advanced control techniques - deadtime compensation (the Smith Projector), Adaptive control. Multi-input Multi-output (MIMO) Control Systems - process and control loop interactions, Control loop, pairings - the RGA method, Decoupling control systems, multivariable control techniques. Digital control systems - introduction, Z transforms, development of discrete time models, dynamic response of discrete time systems, discrete time control algorithms, closed loop analysis, digital control system implementation.
