Syllabus: This unit introduces students to the application of economic principles to the real world and the operation of economic policies. The objective of the unit is to introduce students to the basic economic principles and concepts of supply and demand, elasticities, basic market structures of agribusiness firms, and the factors that affect their operation, including issues related to competition and the failure of market mechanisms, major macroeconomic issues in the economy and their effect on agribusiness firms, functioning of the government in agribusiness, and the effect of government intervention in the market and international trade.
