Syllabus: This unit will not be available until 2006. Overview and history of feedback control. Mathematical modelling of physical systems including thermal, fluid, electromechanical and mechanical. Interpretation of the dynamic response of low order systems in both the time, frequency and s domain. Feedback and stability. Stability assessment techniques, root locus analysis. Response specifications, time and (mention of) frequency. Introduction to controllers. PID algorithms and tuning.
